Maia Makharashvili, Director of the Simon Khechinashvili University Clinic declares, that one of the results of the changes made in the Georgian healthcare system within the framework of the universal healthcare program is that there are no clinics for the poor in Georgia today.
According to her, each reform has its positive and negative sides. She highlighted that healthcare accessibility is clear within the frame of the reform.
“At the expense of infrastructure and universal health care reform, today we do not have clinics for the poor. Patient chooses the clinic and they can receive the same service as another more socially wealthy patient. This is the result of the implemented reforms that have been carried out in the country," Maia Makharashvili said.
The director of the Khechinashvili University Clinic says that the main thing in the healthcare system, as well as in other sectors of the economy, is to create a competitive environment.
