Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze vowed to have completed large-scale reconstruction works and restore two-side traffic on Tsereteli Avenue by the end of January.
At the municipal government meeting on Wednesday, Kakha Kaladze informed that reconstruction works that include the road infrastructure, replacement of underground communications and new road cover started in April.
According to the Mayor, contractor companies experienced problems several times, and the Tbilisi City Hall terminated contracts with two contractor companies for having failed to comply with the agreed-upon conditions.
“It is of utmost importance to have the works completed by the end of January. These companies could not meet the deadlines, and despite several requests from these companies to extend the timeline, we took this decision. We noticed problems with quality, though those problems could be resolved during the working process,” he said.
Kakha Kaladze stated that the selection of a new contractor company is in progress. “Even if I, my deputies and our employees have to work, reconstructions at Tsereteli Avenue will be complete at the end of January,” he said.
Tbilisi City Hall terminated its contract with the contractor company involved in Tsereteli Avenue reconstruction on January 16.
