Natia Turnava, the Acting President of the National Bank of Georgia, on Thursday discussed domestic economic trends, macroeconomic policy and projects implemented as part of the country’s cooperation with the United States Agency for International Development in her meeting with Kelly Degnan, the US Ambassador to Georgia, and John Pennell, the Head of the USAID mission.
Pointing to the “difficult times” in the world caused by the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, Turnava said the US continued to provide assistance and “important consultations” to Georgia and its financial institutions.
"Your efforts in promoting the economic development of Georgia are appreciated”, Turnava said, highlighting a “constant exchange of information” between the NBG and the US Embassy on reforms in the institution.
Turnava highlighted the Bank had acted in “full compliance” with international sanctions imposed on Russia for invading Ukraine last year.
She also thanked the US officials for the “greatest promotion” of economic development in Georgia, which she said included encouragement of foreign investments, promotion of trade agreements and technical assistance.
"The assistance of the American people contributes to the development of the financial sector and the establishment of the best international practices", the Acting President told the visiting officials.
The former Economy Minister was elected First Vice President of the Bank by its Council in June, which means she is running the institution until the election of its new President.
