Businessman Ucha Mamatsashvili’s lawyer Amiran Giguashvili declares, that they are suing the anti-corruption center for spreading lies.
Giguashvili spoke about the details on TV-program Business Morning, noting that the lawsuit concerns seven different statements made by the Anti-Corruption Center, in which they accuse Mamatsashvili of protecting fraudulent call centers, as well as increasing electricity tariffs.
To the question - why Ucha Mamatsashvili decided to go to the court today, Giguashvili answers:
"I also asked this question to my client, to which the answer was as follows - one is when they accuse political affiliation, the second is when they accuse of protecting international transnational crime, and the third is what the anti-corruption movement and its spokesmen say about the rise in electricity prices. Mr. Ucha Mamatsashvili receives the benefit from the increased tariff in the form of black money.
If a person thinks he is accountable to the public, he does not have another choice but responding to it. This response is exactly the kind of way a person can act in the legislative space today.
This was a pre-planned false campaign by the anti-corruption movement. It was aimed at misleading the public and secondly, it damaged Ucha Mamatsashvili's business reputation.
We have removed seven statements which prove that their statements go beyond the evaluation category and were of an evidentiary nature.
We have indicated that GEL 150,000 will be charged to the defendants if we win, and the funds will go to the beneficiaries of the nursing home, who are assisted and patronized by Mr. Ucha Mamatsashvili.
Since 2017, Mr. Ucha Mamatsashvili's name has been associated with the implementation of high-tech projects, such as Middle Seas Capital, where it is transparently written who Mr. Ucha Mamatsashvili is and what projects he is implementing," said Amiran Giguashvili.
Vaso Urushadze, the leader of the anti-corruption movement, made a statement regarding the lawsuit, noting that such lawsuits are aimed at creating discomfort for the activities of the non-governmental sector.
"The Georgian Dream and its informal rulers have made a 'strategic' decision. It's a lie and it all serves one purpose - to make people no longer want to protest”, - says Vaso Urushadze.
