The government of Ukraine is holding talks with the European Commission on the provision of EUR 18 billion in 2024 to cover the budget deficit that will amount to about USD 42 billion. Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal stated this at the sixth German-Ukrainian Economic Forum in Berlin, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"Next year, we expect the European Commission will provide Ukraine with the support in the amount of EUR 18 billion. We are currently negotiating on this, as we will need to cover the budget deficit at the same level as this year - within $42 billion. This year, we are receiving EUR18 billion from the European Commission. We are asking for similar mirror measures of financial support for the next year," he said.
At the same time, Shmyhal expressed his gratitude to the European Commission for supporting Ukraine's European integration initiatives and for financial assistance.
The sixth German-Ukrainian Economic Forum has started in Berlin, bringing together more than 500 representatives of politics and business. The forum is held under the slogan "Recovery, Smart Growth and Security".
