CEO of Rooms Hotel, Valeri Chekheria declares, that unchanged hotel room prices show that there is an oversupply. According to Valeri Chekheria, one of the ways to improve the situation is to activate the conference part.
"There is an excess of supply compared to the demand. We could not even return to the level of the annual average price that we had before the pandemic. If there was an adequate demand, the price would rise. From my point of view, it is most important to work in new directions and activate the conference part. More than 50% of business travelers come to Tbilisi, and this should definitely affect the prices," says Chekheria.
According to the plan of the Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, 320 new accommodation facilities should be built in the country by 2027, in which GEL 1 billion will be invested. As hotelier Maia Murachashvili told BMG, the hotel bed fund in the country has increased a lot, but the demand does not grow accordingly, which has reduced the hotels' income. According to her, the number of hotels has increased, especially in Tbilisi, Batumi, Bakuriani and Gudauri.
