In 1Q2023, the unemployment rate in Georgia decreased by 1.4 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and equaled 18%, - according to the National Statistics Office of Georgia (Geostat).
As of the document, the lowest unemployment rate since 2019 was recorded in the third quarter of last year, when the unemployment rate reached 15.6%.
In the I quarter of 2023, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the number of hired employees increased by 45.8 thousand persons (5.6%) and reached 863.5 thousand, while the number of self-employed increased by 25.4 thousand (6.6%) and equaled to 407.7 thousand. In the same period, the number of unemployed decreased by 10.4 thousand (3.6%) and equaled to 279.2 thousand.
In the I quarter of 2023, the labour force participation rate (share of the labour force in the total population aged 15 and older) increased by 2.1 percentage points compared to the corresponding period of the previous year and became 52%, while the employment rate increased by 2.4 percentage points and amounted to 42.6%.
In the first quarter of 2023, compared to the corresponding period of the previous year, the share of hired in the total number of employed decreased by 0.2 percentage points and equaled 68%. In the I quarter of 2023, the unemployment rate decreased in urban as well as in rural settlements by 0.8 and 2.4 percentage points, respectively compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
