“Congratulations to all Georgians, Gilotsavt! Today is truly a historic day. The US is enthusiastically Georgia’s achievement of EU candidate status. We also commend the European Union and its member states for their commitment to expanding the European family of nations,” said Robin Dunnigan, US Ambassador to Georgia, in her video address released on Twitter.
According to the Ambassador, the US supports Georgia on its European path.
“As you celebrate being Georgian – and therefore European – the United States celebrates with you. The United States is proud to have supported Georgia on this path. And we will continue to do so. Again, Gilotsavt!,” she said.
On December 14, the European Council decided to open EU accession negotiations with Ukraine and Moldova and grant EU candidate status to Georgia.
