The United States and Georgia are discussing ways to deepen cooperation in public health. Last week, US Chargé d’Affaires Courtney Austrian and a delegation from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) met with Georgian Health Minister Mikheil Sarjveladze.

According to the US Embassy in Georgia, the meeting focused on the countries’ more than 30-year partnership, the renewal of US assistance in the healthcare sector and opportunities for future cooperation.

The partnership has supported efforts to strengthen disease surveillance and laboratory systems, develop public health professionals, and improve the prevention, early detection and response to emerging health threats.

The embassy emphasized that health risks do not respect national borders, adding that continued cooperation between the two countries aims to strengthen health security and protect the health and safety of people in both Georgia and the wider region.
