Last year, the quality and quantity of the hazelnut harvest decreased, which led to a drop in its price, Makhare Lemonzhava, the founder of the hazelnut exporting company "Vani Nuts" located in Imereti, told BM.GE.
According to him, the demand for Georgian nuts from European countries has also decreased.
"It was a good year, but the harvest was not so favorable. We mainly cooperate with Italians and we exported 440 tons, but mainly the demand is reduced. It resulted in a price drop, currently, the price of 1 kg ranges between GEL 12-13," said Makhare Lemonzhava.
The founder of "Vani Nuts" notes that until now the state has financed the nut business and says that he hopes it will continue in the future.
Vani Nuts is one of the largest hazelnut exporting companies in Georgia and in the past years, it exported 900 tons of hazelnuts. The company employs 30 people.
