In 2022, vehicle imports/ exports are up in Georgia. The amount of excise duty paid during the customs clearance of cars in the budget is also increasing.
Kakha Lomidze, the marketing manager of "Caucasus Auto Import" told the "Business Morning" that the increase was mainly caused by the effect of migrants and re-exports. As he notes, re-exports are up by 60-70% and the highest demand is observed from Azerbaijan, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Ukraine.
"Ukraine ranks on the last place now, but this does not mean that it has been on the finl place from the beginning. It must be said that now the demand from Ukraine is characterized by a growing trend", says Kakha Lomidze.
According to the State Treasury, in 11M2022, GEL 202.4 million income was received in the budget from the taxation of automobiles, which is 20% or 34.1 million GEL more compared to the figure of 11M2021. In 2021, the total volume of excise duty paid during the customs clearance of cars in 12 months was GEL 185.3 million.
Georgia bought USD 1.39 billion worth of cars in 11 months, the increase was 66%. According to the assessment of the National Bank, the sharp increase was due to the significant price growth of cars. In the same period, cars worth USD 762.8 million were re-exported, which was 82% more than last year.
