Malkhaz Dolidze, the Head of the Georgian Bread Manufacturers Union said on Friday, that water tariff growth in Tbilisi, Rustavi and Mtskheta will not affect bread prices.
According to him, the increase in the price of water will be compensated by a reduced tariff on the price of electricity for bread producers, so the primary consumption product will not become more expensive in the country.
"Today there are flour stocks in Georgia, local mills are working and imported flour will also be added, which allows entrepreneurs to maintain the current prices of bread.
Along with the water tariff increase this year, there is a very good news that the electricity tariff will be reduced. When we recalculated, these balanced each other very well, since electricity is one of the main drivers of the plant. Of course, we should use water more sparingly. The increase in the water tariff will not affect the final products [bread], and the prices we have for bread will be maintained," explained Malkhaz Dolidze, adding that the price of bread is mainly influenced by the cost of raw materials and energy carriers, of which the share of the first is about 25%, and the price of raw materials is more.
