“I do not believe such an assessment can be made concerning the Georgian government. I see no basis for such an evaluation. We have maintained and continue to uphold a very strong, systematic cooperation with the United States when it comes to systematic cooperation. There is no basis whatsoever to question this cooperation,” GD Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili responded to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s statement in the Senate, where the Secretary of State was asked a question about Georgia.

As Botchorishvili noted on air with Rustavi 2 TV, “apparently, the U.S. administration has yet to formulate a clear position regarding Georgia.”

“Moreover, for thirty years, Georgia has been a trusted partner for the United States in this region. These are not just Maka Botchorishvili’s words; they are substantiated by three decades of cooperation, that Georgia is a reliable partner for the United States in this region.

The Georgian government has repeatedly voiced concern regarding the deterioration of relations that occurred under the conditions of the previous U.S. administration. We have consistently expressed our readiness and hope that, under the new administration, these relations will be qualitatively improved and aligned with the national interests of both Georgia and the United States.

What we observe and what we heard today is that this issue — the role and position of the U.S. in our region based on its own national interests — is still under discussion by the U.S. Secretary of State. They are deliberating on what U.S. policy in this region should be, based on its own national interests. They are deliberating, and the Secretary of State was not ready to answer this issue today. He even said that he would not have an answer today about what U.S. policy might look like,” Maka Botchorishvili stated.
