“This December, we expect a fair decision, a strategic decision, I would say, a political decision from Europe with regard to the EU candidate status,” said Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili at the joint briefing with Prime Minister of Croatia Andrej Plenković.

According to the PM, this will be another historic decision and the well-deserved recognition of successful reforms and positive transformation of Georgia.

“In recent years, my dear friends, Georgia has achieved remarkable progress in ensuring the rule of law and democracy, economic development and social justice and strengthening of state and public institutions, deservedly, I would say, received high recognition by respected international organizations.

And also want to say that the ideal of freedom has driven Georgia for centuries in its quest to become a full member of the European family. As a result of considerable reforms undertaken by our government, we are closer to that national goal than ever before.

Visa liberalization, the association agreement and the free trade agreement with European Union are the tangible achievements of our government’s hard work in the last 10 years. Last year, the European Council, EU leaders, and thank you again, Croatia, decided to recognize the European perspective of Georgia, which created unprecedented momentum on our European integration path.

For over one year since this historical decision, Georgia has demonstrated a strong will to leave up to its commitments and become a member of the European Union.

We fully acknowledge that EU membership comes with long-term commitments and responsibilities. It is a long but rewarding journey and we are committed to this path, and we are ready to do what it takes to reach our destination and to become a member of the European Union,” he said.

Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, accompanied by a delegation, pays an official visit to Croatia. Within the scope of the visit, the Head of the Georgian government will hold high-level bilateral meetings in Zagreb and participate in the official opening of the Georgian Embassy in Croatia.
