Revenues of Akhtala Resort decreased amid pandemic. As Giorgi Utiashvili, director of Akhtala Resort declared, the country was completely closed last year, so it was not possible to host international visitors.
Giorgi Utiashvili notes, that there is not high demand on Akhtala Resort either this year.
"We have started working for two days and we are in a bad condition. Visitors are few, we have exhausted all the resources. We could not work with full load last year; we opened the season late and closed earlier. The number of patients was also small because there was still fear among the visitors. We worked, but we could not get the income we were getting so far. We only have a few patients this season,” said the director of the Akhtala resort.
Akhtala Resort received about 5,000 patients several years ago, of which 75% were foreign visitors. However, over the years, their number has decreased. For example, before the pandemic, the resort hosted between 800 and 900 tourists a year, of which 15% were international visitors. At this stage, the sanatorium can only accommodate 70 people at a time.
