The Government of Georgia eased several COVID-related regulations yesterday. As of the decision of Coordinating Council, curfew will be in force from 23:00 to 05:00. Restaurants and food facilities in Georgia are allowed to serve guests only outdoor on weekends from May 22. The Inter-Agency Coordination Council will continue to monitor the epidemic trends and will decide on further easing from June 1 if the situation gets stabilized.
Keti Dochviri, business development manager of the tour company Wonderland positively evaluates the government’s decision on easing the restrictions, but she notes the sector must be informed about that in advance in order to make the situation more certain for them and their customers.
“Georgian government’s decision is a certain benefit for tourists. However, tourism needs full abolishment of curfew for proper work. We should be informed in advance when the government intends to make this or that decision.
Many bookings were canceled or delayed due to the curfew starting at 21:00 and we had no information about the easing of this restriction. 23:00 will probably be less problematic for foreign visitors, but we cannot talk about radical changes in this regard, "- said Keti Dochviri.
Business development manager of the tour company also touched on easing restrictions on cafes and restaurants, noting that tourists will spend more money while traveling in the country.
“Easing of regulations on weekends is crucial for tourism, as week-end tours are very popular in all regions, especially in Adjara. It is very important that people who come on weekends have the opportunity to be in cafes and restaurants, even in the open-air. The season allows us to do that," she said.
According to Keti Dochviri, today tour company mostly serves tourists from the Baltic states, Poland, Kazakhstan and Arab countries.
