The Parliamentary Secretary of the President, Giorgi Mskhiladze, said at the meeting of the Finance and Budget Committee of the Parliament, that the candidates for the Board of the National Bank would be nominated in the near future.
On Monday, the committee was listening to the President's motivational remarks regarding the amendment to the Organic Law "On the National Bank of Georgia". The parliamentary majority wanted to overcome the president's veto.
According to the administration of the president, "Georgian Dream" wants to include the minister of finance, Lasha Khutsishvili, on the board of the National Bank, which the president opposes.
Salome Zourabichvili does not agree with this initiative, as she considers it risky for the institutional independence of the National Bank.
"In the near future, the president will present the candidates to the parliament. The president meant the term of the incumbent in the period until December. So, in the near future, the president will nominate two new candidates for the position of a member of the NBG board, and it is up to you whether you will support them or not," Mskhiladze said.
