According to data from the National Statistics Office of Georgia (GeoStat), price movements in food and non-alcoholic beverages primarily drove the annual inflation. Prices in this category rose by 4.9 per cent, contributing 1.74 percentage points to the annual inflation rate.
Fish, meat, and meat products increased in price by 9.2 per cent, bread and cereals by 8.1 per cent, and oils and fats by 7.6 per cent. Coffee, tea, and cocoa rose by 6.4 per cent, while milk, cheese, and eggs increased by 4.2 per cent. Prices for fruit and grapes increased by 2.5 per cent, sugar, jam, and other confectionery rose by 1.7 per cent, and mineral water, spring water, soft drinks, and natural juices rose by 1.5 per cent. Conversely, vegetables and melons recorded a price decrease of -5.7 per cent.
Meanwhile, prices in the transport category rose by 14.2 per cent, contributing 1.66 percentage points to annual inflation. Increases were recorded in the operation of personal transport equipment (20.1 per cent) and transport services (10.8 per cent).
“Housing, Water, Electricity, Gas, and Other Fuels: Prices in this category increased by 8.3 per cent, contributing 0.8 percentage points to the overall index. Price rises were observed across the following sub-categories: electricity, gas, and other fuels (10.4 per cent), actual rentals for housing (8.2 per cent), and regular maintenance and repair of the dwelling (8.0 per cent).
Health: Prices in this category rose by 4.7 per cent during the period, contributing 0.4 percentage points to overall inflation. Price increases were recorded in medical products, appliances, and equipment (7.7 per cent) and outpatient services (2.7 per cent),” GeoStat noted in its report.
