The Georgian Ministry of Internal Affairs explained the use of special police measures during the rally at the rear entrance of the Parliament in a statement.

According to the statement, the participants of the rally did not comply with the legal requirements of the police officers on-site, leading to the ministry’s use of special measures established by law to restore order.

The ministry urges political leaders, organizers, and rally participants not to exceed the norms of assembly and demonstration established by the law.

“Despite calls from the police and an official statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs to release the exits of the legislative body for MPs and parliamentary staff, rally participants did not obey the legal demands of the law enforcement officers.

The rally participants verbally and physically confronted law enforcement officers and threw various objects at them.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs reiterates its call for political leaders, organizers, and rally participants to adhere to the legal norms governing assemblies and demonstrations. Any violations of the law will result in an appropriate legal response,” the MIA stated.
