The Head of Georgia’s Maritime Transport Agency, Aleksi Akhvlediani, has been detained in connection with the attempted suicide of former Adjara Government Chairman Tornike Rizhvadze. The incident occurred at Akhvlediani’s residence in Sagarejo, where Rizhvadze reportedly suffered a gunshot wound to the heart.
According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), Akhvlediani was charged under Article 238 of the Criminal Code for negligent storage of a firearm, which carries a maximum sentence of up to three years in prison. Rizhvadze remains hospitalized in serious but stable condition.
