What should be done to attract more Italian investors to Georgia? - Italian Ambassador Enrico Valvo answered this question in an interview with bm.ge. In this regard, the Italian diplomat focuses on infrastructure projects.
"I think it is especially important in this regard to complete the connecting infrastructure projects that you are working on with international partners. I mean logistics, after the cargo enteres the Black Sea, then the cargo has to travel a long way. This direction is in good condition, but, so far, unfinished. At the same time, it is important to work towards the development of the labor market. This process has already started and I think it will have certain results," the ambassador said.
And to the question, how important is the completion of the Anaklia deep-water port project for the Italian side, Enrico Valvo does not answer directly, although he says that it is important to be able to handle large volumes of cargo on the territory of Georgia.
"This is what the market demands. Also, the political issue is important, because trade and economics raise many interests related to political orientation and political decisions. However, we must note that Georgians, the market and international investors must decide
which port system will have to serve this purpose," the ambassador said.
According to Geostat, FDI of USD 1.3 million were made in Georgia in 2021. In 1Q2022, the figure stood at USD 1.2 million, and in the second quarter it was USD 263.5 thousand.
