The official opening of the Consulate General of Georgia in Milan was marked by a ceremonial event held at the historic Visconti Palace. The event also commemorated Georgia’s Independence Day.
The national anthems of Georgia and Italy were performed at the beginning of the ceremony.
Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Kobakhidze addressed the attendees, highlighting the strong ties between the Georgian and Italian peoples.
“We are proud of the friendship that exists between Georgia and Italy. The opening of the Consulate General in Milan is a testament to our close relations and will further strengthen our partnership,” he stated.
Speakers at the event included Georgian Foreign Minister Maka Botchorishvili, Tbilisi Mayor Kakha Kaladze, Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala, Milan Prefect Claudio Sgaraglia, and Vice President of the Lombardy Region Marco Alparone.
Mayor Kaladze emphasized that the consulate’s opening would facilitate stronger bilateral ties and improve services for Georgian citizens.
“Milan is the city where many of my dreams came true,” he noted.
Mayor Giuseppe Sala praised the long-standing friendship between Georgia and Italy and the contributions of the Georgian diaspora.
“Georgia has a vibrant and active diaspora in Italy, which plays a key role in enriching Milan’s modern life,” he said.
Lombardy Region Vice President Marco Alparone noted that Georgian-Italian cooperation continues to grow—not only economically, but also in fields such as environmental protection and tourism.
The event concluded with a performance by the Georgian ensemble “Basiani,” held in the Visconti Palace.
