The energy exchange in Georgia will be launched on July 1. The start of electricity trading on the exchange has been delayed five times. The government believes that in July the balancing energy facilities will work almost at full capacity, which will insure certain risks during the transition to the new system.

In particular, "Enguri HPP" and "Vardnili HPPs Cascade" are the providers of balancing services, and it is necessary that both stations are ready to generate at least 70-80% of the installed capacity by the day of the launch of the new market model.

"When we were meeting with renewable energy investors, one of their requests was to open an energy exchange market as soon as possible, because this allows selling energy in the fastest way. More precisely, if a wind power plant sees that it has excess energy, it can sell this energy on the daily market, since all other markets are already closed. Thus, the daily market is important for renewable energies. Let's assume that we can launch both markets together in July," Milorava told TV program "Business Morning".

According to her, July is a better period to start trading on the energy exchange, because large consumers will be able to buy electricity at the lowest price.
