When Georgian ski resorts will open still remains unknown.
The official opening date of the season at winter resorts in Georgia is still unknown. The Mountain Resorts Development Company (MTA) refrains to name the exact date. Goderdzi is no exception, but the hotels at the resort plan to open by December 25.
As Jumber Chkonia, the founder of Goderdzi Ski Resort and Meteora hotels declares, hotels do not receive tourists because they are waiting for the official opening of the season.
According to him, tourists are also interested in when the winter season opens for ski. He notes, that the opening date of the season is important, but recently the snow in Goderdzi is coming at the end of December and the opening of the season earlier does not make sense, the main thing is to open the ski tracks.
"We are waiting for the opening of the season on December 25 and we are also preparing. In a few days, we will start receiving guests. We have also received bookings from this time. The whole of January is in demand and let’s see how the next period will be. We have reservations mainly from local tourists, as well as people from Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus. As for the workload, it will be difficult for me to say in advance, but January is busy,” said Chkonia.
According to him, those who want to stay in hotels can get the same price as before and nothing has changed in this regard.
The hotels employ about 60 people.
According to the founder of Goderdzi Ski Resort, the road to the ski resort is the main problem.
"Road repairs are underway; The Khulo-Zarzma section is being rehabilitated and this is still creating obstacles on the roads, however, it will probably be completed in 2 years and the road problem will be solved. We are not in danger of being locked up. It's a very tiring road, because of this many will refrain from coming to the resort. Investors are also waiting for the road rehabilitation to be completed," said Jumber Chkonia.
