October 1 is International Coffee Day. The International Coffee Organization (ICO) launched its 2026 campaign under the theme “Coffee: Part of the Solution.” According to the organization, coffee provides income for up to 12.5 million farming households worldwide and plays an important role in the socioeconomic development of producing regions.
Georgia is a coffee-importing country, with consumption increasing annually. According to official statistics, in the first eight months of 2026, Georgia imported 5,665 tons of roasted and unroasted coffee worth of $38.26 million. Import value increased by 9.5% year-on-year, while volume rose by 18.2%.
Indonesia was Georgia’s largest coffee supplier, with 2,528 tons worth $10.82 million imported between January and August. Russia ranked second with 660 tons worth $5.9 million, followed by Italy with 355 tons valued at $5.71 million.
Georgia also imported a significant volume of coffee from Vietnam - 1,080 tons worth $4.52 million. Other coffee suppliers included Turkey, Germany, France, Austria, Armenia and several other countries.
