The National Bank of Georgia (NBG) reports, that banknotes and coins in the volume of 4.66 billion GEL are issued in circulation.
According to the NBG 2020 report, the cash flow increased in the country by 524 million GEL or 12.7% last year. In total, there are 103 million banknotes in the country. Banknotes of 100 GEL ranks as the first, as 28.3 million banknotes in the denomination of 100 GEL are issued in the circulation. Banknotes in the denomination of 200 GEL are issued in circulation in the smallest quantities.
Number of banknotes in circulation:
• 1 GEL – 4.5 million coins;
• 2 GEL – 2.3 million coins;
• 5 GEL – 21.7 million banknotes;
• 10 GEL – 8.1 million banknotes;
• 20 GEL – 19.7 million banknotes;
• 50 GEL – 17.1 million banknotes;
• 100 GEL – 23.3 million banknotes;
• 200 GEL – 1.2 million banknotes.
As for the coins, the NBG does not provide exact statistics of coins in the denomination of 5,10,20 and 50 tetri, but the total value of the coins is 134.8 million GEL.
