Reference prices will be enacted on the specific medicines from early 2023.
According to the Ministry of Health, the upper limit of the prices will be established for drugs for the treatment of chronic and oncological diseases. As the Deputy Minister of Health, Ilia Ghudushauri explains, the establishment of reference prices is one of the components of the reform, the goal of which is to provide citizens with the most affordable and high-quality healthcare and medicines.
"Initially, we will define the upper limit for chronic and oncological medicines, because they are sold in the largest quantities and are the most expensive.
Now we are at the selection stage. Both Georgian and foreign experts are involved in the process, including those who have worked on this reform in Bulgaria, Slovenia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, etc.," said the Deputy Minister of IDPs from Occupied Territories, Labor, Health and Social Protection.
Ilia Ghudushauri mentioned that reference prices will be set on generics, and any company that decides to sell a specific generic will be obliged not to set a price higher than the established tariff.
