There are a total of 31 MFOs operating in Georgia, with a total loan portfolio of 2 billion GEL. Over the past year, the loan portfolio of MFOs has increased by 300 million GEL, or 16%.
According to the data submitted to the National Bank, the largest share in the lending growth (270 million GEL) accounted for the pawn loans, the portfolio of which has reached 1.1 billion GEL. Accordingly, as of now, the main activity of the microfinance sector is the issuance of pawn loans.
In second place in the portfolio are consumer loans in the amount of 510 million GEL, which have increased by 16 million GEL annually, and in third place are loans issued to microentrepreneurs operating in the trade and service sectors in the amount of 177 million GEL. In addition, a decrease in the loan portfolio by 5 million GEL was recorded in this segment.
Loans to microentrepreneurs (individual entrepreneurs) in the agricultural sector increased by 10 million GEL and amounted to 119 million GEL at the end of 2024.
As for loans issued to legal entities, its portfolio is 20 million GEL, and the number of loans made up 676, which is equivalent to an average of 29,300 GEL per loan.
Microfinance organizations received a total of 463 million GEL in interest income in 2024, which was an annual increase of 7%, while their non-interest income increased by 5% and amounted to 80 million GEL.
Overall, in 2024, the sector received a net profit of 133 million GEL, which was an annual increase of 6.6%.
