The government undertakes that the education budget in 2020 will be 2 billion GEL, in 2021 - 2 billion and a half, and in 2022 it will equal 6% of the country's GDP, - said Giorgi Gakharia's predecessor, Mamuka Bakhtadze on April 4, 2019.

Irakli Kadagishvili, a member of the parliamentary majority, reminded it to Giorgi Gakharia, candidate for the Prime Minister. According to Giorgi Gakharia, this promise may be revised due to the economic crisis caused by COVID-19.

"Education reform always will be a priority for the government. The budget will not be reduced, it will increase from year to year, and as for the 6% promise that should have been fulfilled from 2022, I will be quite careful about this promise today. No one knows with what economic parameters we will finish in 2021 and start 2022 due to the uncertainty COVID crisis. Discussion of this issue is deferred. However, education always will be on the list of priorities," said Giorgi Gakharia.
