The Georgian State Electricsystem estimates the potential of 20 solar and wind power plants. The construction of these stations is conditionally scheduled for the next ten years.
According to the state power system document, the total output of these power plants should be 1257 MWh - for comparison, this electricity is almost equal to the output of the Enguri hydropower plant, but due to its specificity, for example, a solar station only - during the day, and a wind station will operate only in an appropriate climatic conditions.
Despite the state power system's assessment of 20 potential power plants, it is unknown whether these projects will be implemented.
At present, there is only one alternative energy power plant operating in Georgia - a 21-megawatt Gori wind farm, which was created by the state with a loan from the EBRD and was put into operation in December 2016.
