A working meeting was held at the decision of a trilateral social partnership commission on the issue of Chiatura miners, the Ministry of IDPs, Labor, Health and Social Affairs reported.
The meeting addressed the crisis situation, which arose due to the suspension of mining works by the Chiatura Management Company. Representatives of the Ministry, Labor Inspection, Trade Unions and Employers Association attended the meeting.
The administration of the Chiatura Management Company was invited to review the company’s decision and launch negotiations with the miners. Regarding the current 60% wage arrears, the Trade Unions propose that employees be immediately paid 60% of their January wages.
The group members positively assessed the proposal and agreed to continue work on its fulfilment. An agreement was also reached to revise the decision, based on which the mining operations were declared as financially unprofitable.
A commission staffed by the branch specialists will consider the opinion of DMT Consulting Company. The meeting participants unanimously remarked that the issue was complex and required active work with all interested stakeholders.
