Russia has received a notification from Armenia about the discontinuation of the work of Russian border guards at Zvartnots Airport, and contacts with Yerevan are ongoing, said the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov, in a conversation with journalists, as reported by TASS.

"Yes, indeed, a departmental letter has been received on this matter, and contacts are currently being made through the relevant departments. I cannot say more at the moment," Peskov commented on the statement of the Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan regarding Russian border guards at Yerevan Airport.

A representative of the Kremlin added, "Naturally, contacts at all possible levels will continue."

During a press conference on March 12, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenian border troops had sent a letter of gratitude to Russian border guards stationed in the Republic of Armenia. The letter expressed gratitude for their service at Zvartnots Airport and the assistance provided.

In this letter, Armenian border troops also informed Russian border guards that the Armenian border service has gained sufficient experience, skills, and knowledge to independently fulfill its duties at Zvartnots Airport and does not require further support from Russia.

"This message sent to Russian border guards is primarily an expression of gratitude. The letter indicates the date - August 1, 2024," emphasized Nikol Pashinyan.
