Zurab Pololikashvili is no longer the head of the United Nations World Tourism Organization. Following two terms under Pololikashvili’s leadership, the position of Secretary-General has been assumed by Shaikha Al Nowais as of January 1, 2026.
UN Tourism has already announced the change on social media:
“As the new year begins, we welcome Shaikha Al Nowais as Secretary-General of UN Tourism.
As the first woman to lead the Organization, she begins her mandate at a moment of opportunity and responsibility for global tourism.
With a strong foundation in place, UN Tourism looks ahead under her leadership — focused on serving Member States and advancing tourism as a driver of opportunity and connection worldwide.
The UN Tourism team welcomes her as we begin this new chapter together.”
