Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development of Georgia, Romeo Mikautadze, the Head of the Assets Management in Central Asia and Transcaucasia Unit at PJSC Inter RAO, Dimitri Volkov, the Chairman of the Georgian National Energy and Water Supply Regulatory Commission, Irina Milorova and the Deputy Mayor of Tbilisi, Ilia Eloshvili Participated in the official ceremony dedicated to the official fulfillment of the construction process of Chugureti Hydro Power Substation.

"Today we have launched a new substation, Chugureti, which will serve more than 25 000 subscribers of our capital. The enactment of a new energy facility in the center of Tbilisi is another step forward towards improving the power supply of the capital. This type of projects increases the reliability and quality of power supply thus increasing the volume of investments in the power transmission infrastructure. Due to the existing aged and deteriorated substation, the GNERC has decided to build a new substation, after which the company Telasi started construction works of the energy facility. About 14 million GEL was spent on construction of the substation Chugureti," – Romео Mikautadze declared.

The company Telasi has built a new 35/6 kW two-dimensional substation of Chugureti, which will replace the old substation of Thermal Power Plant. The launch of new power plant will improve the quality and reliability of power supply of 25 000 customers of the two central districts of Tbilisi - Chugureti and Mtatsminda.

The construction of a new 35/6 kV two-dimensional substation in the former Thermal Power Plant was started in the summer of 2017. The entire new building was built within the project and the substation was equipped with modern electrical equipment. In addition, 2 units of ABB brand 25MW power transformers, as well as 12 units of ABB 35 kV distribution units and 52 kits of 6 kV Invent Electro cells were installed at the substation. Along with construction of substation, the company of Telasi has begun construction of the new two chained reserve cable line, which links the substation Chugureti with that of Ortachala. Currently the 4.7 kilometer reserve power line provides reliable power supply for substation and its subscribers.

The company of Telasi spent 14 mln GEL to implement the substation and reserve line construction projects.

The old substation was put into operation in 1950. Due to its obsolete and deteriorating condition, in 2016 GNERC decided to construct a new 35-kilometer orientation transformer substation. Under the decree N2618 of the Government of Georgia, on December 22, 2016 the JSC Telasi and the National Agency of State Property signed a contract of purchase within which the company of Telasi was transferred 1 200m2 non-agricultural land plot for the construction of substation. According to the decision of the regulatory commission, the construction of the substation was to be completed by April 1, 2018.
