In 2018, Georgia ranks 94 among 180 countries according to Environmental Performance Index (EPI). This index shows the readiness and willingness of the countries to make steps towards mitigation of harmful impact. The assessment criteria include air quality, environment protection, level of harmful emissions resulting from economic activities, protection of natural resources, etc.
In this index, Armenia and Azerbaijan have better scores than Georgia. Armenia ranks 63 and Azerbaijan – 59. The “greenest” country in the world is Switzerland, with the highest score – 87,42 points – in Environmental Performance Index. Among the top 20 there are mainly European countries. Russia ranks 53, China – 120. India is 177 among 180 countries. The worst situation is in Bangladesh and Burundi, which are the last of 180. Out of 100 rating points, Georgia scored 55.69.
