“Banks should not be competing with businesses”, - told us Roman Kakulia, Chairperson of Sectoral Economy Committee of Parliament of Georgia, assessing the comment of the Minister of Finance on banking sector. Chairperson of the committee states that the Minister did not say that banks should not be assessed as deserved institutions in the process of economic development of Georgia, however, Kakulia thinks that the problem of the banking sector is that they compete with businesses.

“I think, as it mainly happens in other cases, the statement was a little exaggerated. Nobody says and I think the Minister neither that the deserved role of banks in development of Georgia’s economic development should not be recognized and even now, banks are one of the most important institutions, significantly contributing to our development. Their problem is that they should not be competing with businesses and they know this, National Bank of Georgia also knows this. This result can not be achieved immediately, but we are moving in that direction and after a certain period of time we should be able to see that bank are not anymore competitors for businesses”, - states Roman Kakulia.
