"In three years' time, we must double the number of persons engaged in athletic activities," Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili stated after today's working meeting dedicated to the development of the action plan for promoting healthy lifestyle.
The Prime Minister singled out the support and promotion of healthy lifestyle. And concrete effective steps in this direction, as it is becoming one of the government's most important, top priorities.

"We have made a decision to prioritize the introduction of healthy lifestyle and relevant infrastructural readiness as one of our key priorities. As of today, we are launching work to evaluate in the shortest possible period both stand-alone sports infrastructure and infrastructure incorporated into the system of education. In the shortest possible period, we will evaluate needs, what type of infrastructure must be created in the country in line with European standards, based on population density calculations and geographic dispersion, so that we have in place adequate geographic distribution and access.

As for affordability, we must make sure of course, this infrastructure is affordable for the entire population, including economically needy strata. Therefore, a special policy for managing and subsidizing this infrastructure will be developed covering sports and health, and social aspects," the Prime Minister said.
On the Prime Minister's instructions, the evaluation of the existing infrastructure and relevant needs must be completed within a month. The working group will meet to discuss this issue in the next few days. After the schedule plan is finalized, priorities at a different qualitative level will be reflected in the state budget.

"Even though the numbers of athletes in Georgia and those involved in sports have increased significantly over the past few years, Georgia's sports activities statistics remain half the average found in Europe. We must double this number in the course of three years and draw it closer to European statistics. This is our plan which will produced very shortly. Relevant infrastructure will be put in place in the country. Not only will the budget include capital costs for building infrastructure, but it will also be reflected in the budget's social items so that our citizens may enjoy this infrastructure," Giorgi Kvirikashvili emphasized.

According to the Prime Minister, some agencies have already invested much work on this issue, including the Tbilisi City Hall, the Ministry of Sports and Culture, the Ministry of Education, and relevant parliamentary committees. Interesting proposals have been developed by individual factions, namely Georgian Dream for Strong Georgia, and others.

"Our goal is to make use of this unified model of management in a unified context, to formulate a unified concept as to how this infrastructure should be managed. 80% of z country's infrastructure is state-owned, and only 20% is run by the private sector, so we must also agree on a unified management model as well. Naturally, the engagement of celebrities will be very important, along with campaigns, concrete activities, including every weekend, and, of course, the involvement of the business community will be extremely important for the implementation of this far-reaching plan. This issue is becoming one of our government's top priorities," the Prime Minister emphasized.
The working meeting with the Head of Government was attended by members of the executive and legislative branches and the Mayor of Tbilisi.
