“We are interested in export to Uzbekistan as well as the transit opportunities that we can offer to the Uzbek side to transport its products to the third countries. We had a positive trade balance with Uzbekistan last year and this tendency is maintained this year. But the volumes that we have with Uzbekistan do not correspond to the opportunities we have. Therefore, our goal is to use these opportunities to create new jobs and additional values in our country,” – the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili stated following the meeting with the governmental delegation of  the Republic of Uzbekistan.

Delegation from Uzbekistan is on a working visit in Georgia. Within the frames of the visit, the Uzbek delegation will take part in the session of the Georgia-Uzbekistan Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission. The delegation is headed by the Foreign Trade Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khodjaev.

“We discussed very important issues regarding the developing trade turnover between the two countries as well as the development of the tourism potential. We also talked about launching of the direct flights between Tbilisi and Tashkent, which might be implemented. We think that the potential in this regard is quite high and it will definitely help the tourism development,” – Dimitry Kumsishvili commented.

Cooperation in the field of transport was also discussed at the meeting. It was noted that the Government of Georgia prioritizes the strengthening of the transit function of the country and establishment of the regional logistic hub that will reflect in the international cargo and passenger flows in the corridor.

Priority directions of the cooperation between Georgia and Uzbekistan were defined during the conversation.

Today, the First Vice Prime Minister of Georgia, Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Dimitry Kumsishvili and the Foreign Trade Minister of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Jamshid Khodjaev will co-chaired the session of the Intergovernmental Economic Cooperation Commission.
