Wine occupies the fourth position in the TOP-10 export commodities of Georgia. In 2021, a total of $ 124.8 million worth of wine was exported from the country, which is 16% more compared to the previous year. The increase in exports is due to the improved economic situation in the countries of the region.

Despite the positive dynamics, there are risks associated with the concentration of Georgian wine exports on the Russian market. As of 2021, 57% of wine exports accounts for Russian (58% - 2020), this figure ranges within 57-62% in the last 5 years.

The government is trying to change the current situation by using indirect tools. Minister of Agriculture Levan Davitashvili presented a new program that will allow wine companies to co-finance expenditures related to promotion and marketing. Each company can receive a subsidy of up to 600,000 GEL from the state for this purpose. According to the terms of the program, the wine company should not carry out marketing activities in the CIS market with the received money.

According to statistics, Georgian wine exports almost doubled in 2016-2019. If the current trend of export growth is maintained until the end of the year, then exports will exceed the 2019 figure and will be at a record level after the restoration of country’s independence.

According to the Minister of Environment Protection and Agriculture, in total 370 companies exported wine abroad in the reporting period.
