Aviation industry is facing crisis, Zsuzsa Trubek, Corporate Communications Manager at Hungarian budget airline Wizz Air told BMG. A crisis ongoing in Europe is one of the reasons for that, Trubek says adding that the industry is also facing a staff shortage.

“It is a big crisis indeed. The industry has been affected not only by Covid, but also economic conditions and Russia-Ukraine conflict, not to mention high rate of inflation and increased prices on jet fuel. All these cumulatively can be called a crisis. These are the big challenges that we are facing. The industry has been under attack. Inflation rate and growing jet fuel prices are systemic problems for the industry.

The whole industry is also facing a staff shortage and the problem is not related only to Wizz Air, actually we do have sufficient number of air-crew. We consider ourselves lucky. In point of fact, we have foreseen that the demand for industry would be fast in post-pandemic period. So far, Wizz Air is not facing a manpower shortage. I am optimistic, that the industry will soon overcome this problem.

This has an impact on our operations as well, because it is an overall system that doesn't work the way it used to. I mean the period before the pandemic, when we worked very successfully. We are working with airports and other airlines to resolve these issues", Trubek said.

In the current week, the Hungarian budget airline returned the second aircraft based at the Kutaisi International Airport and increased the frequencies on certain destinations. Wizz Air is one of the leading companies on the Georgian aviation market, which served 226,000 passengers in 6 months of this year.
