Kutaisi Hotels Depend on Airport Traffic — Central Hotel

International air connectivity is one of the key factors determining the performance of Kutaisi’s hotel sector. Tekla Meburishvili, co-founder of Central Hotel, told BMGTV’s Women’s Narrative that around 90% of the hotel’s guest flow depends on Wizz Air and Kutaisi International Airport.

She said the lack of developed business tourism in the city further increases this dependence. Unlike Tbilisi, Kutaisi has fewer business, government and diplomatic meetings that could generate a steady flow of visitors and additional demand for hotels, restaurants and other services.

Meburishvili noted that several years ago, when Kutaisi had a direct flight to Abu Dhabi, the city received a significant number of Arab tourists. The flight was direct and relatively inexpensive, creating an important source of demand for the hotel sector.

“The flight no longer operates, and we have therefore lost a significant source of demand. If Kutaisi gains more functions, this will increase demand and, in turn, create a need to expand the airport and add new routes. The impact would extend beyond hotels to restaurants, cafes and other local businesses,” Meburishvili said.
