The Chair of the Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Committee, Maia Bitadze serves the visit to Jeneva (Switzerland) to preside on the 7th session of the Working Group of the Aarhus Convention.
Georgia accessed the Convention in 2001, which provides accessibility to environmental information, civic engagement in the decision-making process and access to justice related to environmental issues.
The meeting of the parties, as a supreme body of the Convention, oversees the effective fulfillment of the commitments by the signatory countries.
M. Bitadze occupies the position of Chair of the session since 2015 – in 2017, she was re-elected. Due to the pandemic-related regulations, the session is being held in a hybrid format.
