Former Georgian minister of finance Nodar Khaduri, who was the first to hold the position under the current Georgian Dream leadership back in 2012, has passed away at age 49.
Heart complications have been named as the possible reason for his early death.
Since December 2016 up to now he headed the Georgian Competition Agency.
Kharuri was a professor of Tbilisi State University and is the author of more than 100 academic works which have been published in the US, Hungary, Sweden, Russia and Azerbaijan.
He was elected to the post of minister of finance of Georgia in October 2012, which he held until 2016.
While serving as minister he initiated changes to the country’s income tax legislation, with the main goal of improving the investment climate, attracting more investors and ensuring increased income for the country.
Previously he served in different positions in the ministry of finance and the Georgian parliament.
Between 2004 and 2008 he was a consultant for the United Nations Development Programme in Georgia.
