Gas prices have risen sharply in Europe. 2 or 3 weeks ago the price of 1000 cubic meters of natural gas reached USD 3,900 per cubic meter, - Prime Minister of Georgia Irakli Gharibashvili said at today's governmental meeting.

"I would also like to explain to our citizens that gas prices have risen sharply in Europe, there had not been such a thing earlier. 2-3 weeks ago the price of 1000 cubic meters of natural gas reached USD 3,900 per cubic meter and do you remember how much we pay for natural gas? This is social gas and this is commercial gas. Since this is a commercial secret, we cannot say specifically, but under the contract that the Government has signed with Azerbaijan, I would say that we are the second or third country in Europe in terms of cheap gas prices, after Azerbaijan.

The cheapest gas in Europe is in Georgia, after Azerbaijan. Therefore, we ask everyone to show more responsibility in this situation, in such a crisis, and not to mislead citizens. In Europe, 1,000 cubic meters of gas cost USD 3,900 just 3 weeks ago, while in Georgia citizens pay about USD 120 for it. This is a big difference, utility bills have increased ten times all over Europe and there is a very difficult situation. I want all of us to understand this, especially the politicians who come out and tell lies to our citizens," he said.
