Georgia Received $ 74 Million From Tourism in May

In May 2021, Georgia earned $ 73.8 million from tourism, a record amount since the pandemic began. According to the National Bank, a recovery trend is observed in terms of tourism-generated revenues.
 
A total of 104,700 visitors visited Georgia in May. This flow of tourists is 180% more than last year.

According to the National Tourism Administration statistics, more than half of the visitors - 52,688 visitors entered the country by air last month, which is related to the activated air traffic. Georgia also opened its land borders on June 1, which will further increase the flow of visitors.
 
Despite the relative recovery of tourism, its volume is 85% less than in the pre-pandemic period (May 2019).

1 Turkey - 21,855 visitors, an increase of 37.8% over the previous year
2 Ukraine - 11,533 visitors, an increase over the previous year 1049.9%
3 Israel - 11,244 visitors, an increase of 2488.7% over the previous year
4 Russia - 10,818 visitors, an increase of 186.4% over the previous year
5 Armenia - 9,863 visitors, an increase of 26.4% over the previous year
6 Georgia (non-resident) - 9,537 visitors, an increase of 387.6% over the previous year
7 Azerbaijan - 5,704 visitors, an increase of 74.1% over the previous year
8 Kazakhstan - 4,664 visitors, an increase over the previous year 1147.1%
9 Uzbekistan - 2,528 visitors, an increase of 690.0% over the previous year
10 Belarus - 2,349 visitors, an increase of 216.2% over the previous year
11 India - 1,496 visitors, an increase of 13500.0% over the previous year
12 United States - 1,167 visitors, an increase over the previous year of 3664.5%
13 Iran - 1,141 visitors, an increase over the previous year 1401.3%
14 Poland - 837 visitors, an increase of 10362.5% over the previous year
15 Germany - 745 visitors, an increase of 2028.6% over the previous year.

In 2020, tourism revenue in Georgia decreased by 80%, as a result of which the country lost $ 2.7 billion compared to 2019. In the first 4 months of 2021, the country received only $ 177 million from tourism.
