How Much Revenue Did Georgia Receive From Tourism?

In January-May 2022, Georgia received revenue of USD 841 million from international travelers, according to the National Bank of Georgia. The largest revenue was recorded in May when 319,000 visitors spent USD 258 million in the country.

The National Bank report includes tourism revenue by country. In this respect, the Russian Federation is in the first place, from where long-term migrants entered this year. In total, the Russians spent USD 150 million in Georgia this year. In second place are the Belarusian visitors (migrants), who spent 94.6 million in Georgia this year.

In total, in 2022, Georgia received 1 million international visitors, their expenses by countries as follows:

1) Russia - USD 150.4 million, 156,910 visitors, average expenditure of USD 959
2) Belarus - USD 94.6 million; 29,671 visitors, average expenditure of USD 3,188
3) EU - USD 90.3 million; 72,181 visitors, average expenditure of USD 1,251
4) Ukraine - USD 82.2 million; 55,630 visitors, average expenditure of USD 1,478
5) Turkey - USD 80.8 million; 199,945 visitors, average expenditure of USD 404
6) Israel - USD 79.1 million; 64,022 visitors, average expenditure of USD 1,236
7) Azerbaijan - USD 30.6 million; 53,331 visitors, average expenditure of USD 574
8) Armenia - USD 30.0 million; 133,796 visitors, average expenditure of USD 224
9) Saudi Arabia - USD 24.6 million; 19,391 visitors, average expenditure of USD1,269
10) Iran - USD22.7 million; 27,775 visitors, average expenditure of USD 817
Other countries - USD 155.7 million.

In total, tourism revenue in 2022 recovered to 75% of the pre-pandemic 2019.
