Many entrepreneurs started to import relatively cheap fuel to our information, though it has not yet been reflected in the prices. It was announced by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia at the Executive Government Meeting yesterday.
According to the Head of Government of Georgia, the Competition Agency will submit its Expertise Opinion by May 15 and the Government of Georgia will be able to act accordingly with its response measure.
"Last Friday, I instructed the economic team and held a meeting with the Competition Agency to discuss the matters related to fuel pricing. Our information is the following: many entrepreneurs started to import relatively cheap fuel to our information, though it has not yet been reflected in the prices. That is why, we commissioned the Competition Agency to scrutinize the fuel pricing in detail and submit its Interim Expertise Opinion by May 15. The Government of Georgia will thus be able to act accordingly with its response measure. We are not asserting anything. Certain information is believed to be available on negotiations related to fuel pricing, but to avoid all that, we need to have a Monitoring Report to make the relevant conclusions" stated Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia.
