Fivefold increase of monthly supplement to veterans has been decided from January 2022. It was announced by Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia during his keynote speech delivered at the event marking a Day of Veterans yesterday.

The Head of Government of Georgia congratulated the jubilee to veterans of various generations, thanked them for their service and noted that authorities are doing their best within their capacity to improve the livelihood of veterans in Georgia.

"My heartfelt congratulations to veterans of various generations with the Day of Veterans. I congratulate all those who fought during World War II (WWII), after regaining the independence, within Georgia or at hot spots of the world with all your dedication for the freedom of your homeland or global security.

Together with you and our society, we are honouring the memory of your fellow servicemen - those heroes, who did not return to their families and sacrificed the most precious thing they had - life for the better future of their motherland.

Society and its development are measured by the degree of appreciation and care towards protectors of homeland. Our Government does its best within its capacity to improve the livelihood of veterans in the country. Koba has listed the steps we have taken within our tenure - all those programs that have been or are being implemented, be that 1000 GEL supplements or other significant programs, which were carried out in the recent past. Of course, it is vital for us to care for veterans and their health. I also wish to say that the topic of our concern is the 22 GEL supplement. We have decided to revisit and increase it fivefold from January 2022. Your recognition is not only the acknowledgement of your contribution and merits, but also care for the future, right values among the youth, introduction of ideals about the supremacy of homeland and freedom. Therefore, on behalf of the Government of Georgia, I once again thank you for your service and wish you good health, peace and prosperity" stated Irakli Garibashvili, Prime Minister of Georgia.

Event marking the Day of Veterans was launched by Koba Kobaladxze, Director of the State Service of Veteran Affairs. Salome Zourabichvili, President of Georgia; Kakha Kuchava, Chairman of the Parliament of Georgia; representatives of the executive and legislative authorities, as well as diplomatic corps attended the event.
