Samsung Electronics has promoted a woman executive as the tech giant's president for the first time.

Lee Young-hee was promoted to the top role from her previous post as head of the company's Global Marketing Center of the Device eXperience (DX) division.

Lee started working for the Korean tech giant in 2007 and was promoted to Vice President in 2012. Prior to that, she was a marketing specialist at L'Oreal. She is the one who has successfully promoted the company's Galaxy brand mobile phone image worldwide. Lee Young-hee has long been expected to become the group's first female president.

Samsung hopes Lee's promotion will inspire other talented female employees to challenge themselves to climb to the top. In addition to promoting Lee, Samsung also made some changes to senior executives. This is the first major reshuffle since the group's leader, Mr. Lee Jae-yong, was promoted to executive chairman in October, media reports.
