E-commerce fell by 17% in May

In the wake of COVID-19 crisis, the cost of goods and services purchased through e-commerce in the country has fallen instead of rising.

During May, Georgian population spent a total of 260.4 million GEL on e-commerce, which is 55.1 million GEL or 17.4% comparing to the same period of 2019. In the first 5 months of 2020, the total volume of internet transactions decreased by 101 million GEL or 7% to 1.338 billion GEL.

According to a report by the National Bank, the volume of payments made through POS terminals at trade centers and shopping malls has achieved the highest rate in December, 2019 amounting to GEL 930 million. In May 2020, its volume was 781.4 million GEL, which is 23.6% more comparing to 2019.
